A lectern, a glass of water, and, most of all, the phenomenal performer Bruno Vanden Broecke – one doesn't need anything more for a delicately drawn evening of theater with a long-lasting effect:

André, active as a missionary in the Congo for more than 50 years, is back home on vacation in Europe. Then he talks in a conversational tone, with no regard for political correctness at all, about Congolese (eating) habits, the differences between African and European mentalities, his duties as a missionary, and devastating wars. But it becomes more and more evident that Andre's real subject is our European way-of-life, which has become alien to him. His impressive monologue raises clear questions concerning morals and the entanglements of an individual in a contradicting and brutal world.

At the same time, an impressive portrait develops of a person who as a young adult committed himself to a mission and remains loyal to this decision his entire life, despite all of his doubts.

Mission is based on numerous interviews the Flemish author David Van Reybrouck conducted with missionaries based in Congo.
