CONNECT CONNECT is an initiative of the SPIELART Festival Munich for art sponsorship in the area of theater and performance. The special challenge of the project is that a mentor will select two artists from different backgrounds – different in regard to previous work contexts, or genres, or cultural or geographic factors – who have not worked together in theater before and who will then develop together a performance or production. The initiators hope that as a result of this "test arrangement" a dialogue between the two artists will develop involving the anticipated very different views and opinions of the world and life and previous artistic experiences and work methods, and that the two artists will have the opportunity to further develop their individual artistic work. At the same time, this will result in a real laboratory situation of the "contemporary" in art.
CONNECT CONNECT is the third mentor project initiated by SPIELART – the first was WHAT’S NEXT 2007 (with the mentors Romeo Castellucci; Tim Etchells; Jan Lauwers; and Johan Simons), and the second was CONNECTIONS 2009 (with the mentors Kirsten Dehlholm; Tim Etchells; Dirk Pauwels; Nataja Rajkovic; Meg Stuart; and Anna Viebrock).
The initiators have also chosen four mentors for CONNECT CONNECT, namely Alain Platel (Belgium); René Pollesch (Germany); Ong Keng Sen (Singapore); and Philippe Quesne (France).
All four world premieres will be presented as a "Festival in a Festival" (November 24 - 26, 2011) as part of the SPIELART Festival 2011 (November 18 – December 4, 2011), and afterwards they will be presented to the general public by the co-producers.
