In the autumn of 2006, it was discovered that the grandfather of Wojtek Ziemilski, up until that point a respected citizen in Breslau, was a former member of the Communist secret service. Wojtek Ziemilski's answer to this situation is his lecture-performance, where he combines personal history, historical facts, and contemporary choreography – an attempt to confront his chosen artistic decisions with his family's history, which he had no influenceÜbersicht on.

+Biography

Wojtek Ziemilski (b. 1977), is a theatre director and visual artist. He creates works on the limit of theatre, visual arts and choreography. He graduated the theatre directing course at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal. After coming back to Poland in 2008, his first projects earned him the attention of the media, calling him “the hot new name of Warsaw theater” (Izabela Wierzbicka, Gazeta Wyborcza) and “the rising star of Polish culture” (Slawomir Sierakowski, Duzy Format). He has been teaching contemporary approaches to theatre making, with a particular focus on devising techniques, the new dance´s (so-called “non-danse”) input into theatricality, and the use of fact on stage. He is one of the first artists in Poland to investigate rule-based devising. He is also active in visual arts, working mainly in video and photography. Ziemilski is the author of the popular contemporary art blog new-art.blogspot.com.
